All In for Loomis Chaffee 2021

We've reached our goal of 702 gifts to the Annual Fund! A very big THANK YOU to the many members of the Loomis Chaffee community — alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends — who went All In and made our campaign a success! Your generosity helps ensure that we will be able to continually provide our students with a transformative educational experience.  

Our alumni use their Loomis Chaffee education to make a positive impact in the world. They can be found making a difference in a range of fields, from public service, law, and medicine to journalism and the arts.

Our 2021 commencement speaker, Dr. Pauline Chen '82, works at the intersection of her two chosen professions — as a respected physician and as a writer — to promote better understanding between doctors, patients, and the families they serve, and to humanize the healthcare delivery process for all. 

Athletics and physical education programs are an essential element of the Loomis Chaffee experience. We offer a wide range of opportunities and activities that benefit students physically, psychologically, and socially. In total, we have 63 interscholastic teams and 26 intramural offerings!

Our extensive curricular and extracurricular offerings in theatre and dance allow students to grow and discover new talents. This spring, students performed in the Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee, a long-running Broadway show and popular community theater draw around the country.

  We look forward to hosting shows in the newly renovated and expanded Nichols Center for Theatre and Dance next year!

At Loomis Chaffee, we value a strong sense of community and host many fun events throughout the year to foster a spirit of togetherness. This spring, we started a new tradition called the Pelican Games, in which faculty and staff divided into four teams and competed in a wide range of activities, such as dodgeball, tug of war, chess, and even a cardboard canoe race across Cow Pond.

The Annual Fund is a critical resource that helps us meet the school’s most pressing needs and adapt quickly to unanticipated challenges. During the past year, broad support of the Annual Fund enabled us to implement important health and safety measures to protect our school community and make upgrades to our technology infrastructure to ensure that our students learning online continued to enjoy an exceptional educational experience.

Our students have wonderful opportunities through the Pearse Hub for Innovation (PHI) to practice creative problem-solving, design thinking, and collaboration. According to Scott MacClintic ’82, Director of Innovation, the purpose of the PHI is to encourage students to “make things and make a difference.”

One of the many projects that took place this year in the PHI was upcycling cardboard into paper (pictured above).

You can help make All In for Loomis Chaffee a success by serving as an Advocate and sharing the campaign link with your peers via email, text, or social media. As an Advocate, you can track how many gifts you personally generate and earn rewards, including Loomis Chaffee apparel to show your school pride!

Loomis Chaffee is fortunate to have an incredible staff at our Health Center. During the pandemic, they worked harder than ever to protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

At Loomis Chaffee, we aim to foster a passion for community service and voluntarism. Serving the common good is part of the school's ethos and dates back to our Founders' vision more than 100 years ago. 

This spring, the student-led Pelican Service Organization (PSO) hosted its annual Color Run to raise funds to help two organizations working to fight childhood hunger in the greater Hartford area: Weekend Wheels and Filling in the Blanks.

Loomis Chaffee is home to talented teachers, advisors, and coaches who are dedicated to ensuring the academic success and personal growth of our students. Throughout the unique challenges of the past year, our faculty have gone above and beyond, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to our students.

Our annual 48-hour giving event, All In for Loomis Chaffee, has begun. There are so many reasons (possibly even 702!) to go All In and support Loomis Chaffee. We'll be posting some of those reasons throughout the next two days. Check back soon!
